Area residents say a new set of lights have gone up in the Outer Battery following council’s decision not to implement a nuisance lighting bylaw.
Resident Christina Smith says she’s disappointed with council’s decision and was surprised that Deputy Mayor Sheilagh O’Leary was the only member to vote in favour of the motion.
Smith says since the meeting, another light has gone up in the neighbourhood. She says the new set, installed Tuesday, are identical to the current set and are installed vertically instead of horizontally.
She fears that residents will have to end up fighting the issue in court. Smith says not every resident has the ability to take the matter to court and a legal battle could easily be avoided by the implementation of a bylaw preventing excessive lights.
