A new employment support pilot project for young people on income support has been launched in a partnership between Choices for Youth, Stella’s Circle, and the provincial government.
The idea is to keep young people on income support in the workforce by removing some of the financial barriers preventing them from working full-time.
It includes a new earnings exemption formula, allowing workers to keep more of their earnings, bonuses for continuous employment to build work experience, and supports to gain the experience needed to manage financial responsibilities and work/life challenges.
The pilot, officially launched this morning by Minister John Abbott, was developed between Choices for Youth and Stella’s Circle.
Abbott says the program removes many of the financial barriers for young people on income support who enter the workforce.
