Police officers are often called upon to assist when someone needs help, but an RNC officer in Labrador is being commended for helping a different kind of resident who was experiencing some recent trouble.
RNC Constable Hannah Brewer of the Churchill Falls detachment helped local wildlife officials after they received reports of a great horned owl that was acting strangely.
Officials from Fish, Forestry and Agriculture observed the owl and called in a biologist to try to figure out what was wrong.
The biologist determined that the bird was likely dehydrated, so Constable Brewer was called in to help locate and secure the feathered predator and transport it to a safe place.
She’s even playing a role in feeding and providing the owl with water through a syringe, which he’s taken to well and is starting to regain his strength.
Officials have named the bird “Brew” which was her nickname when she was in the police program.
The owl is reportedly on the mend and is doing well.
They expect to return the owl back into the wild in the next 24 to 48 hours, and Constable Brewer has been invited to take part in the release, something she admits will probably be an emotional experience.
Yesterday RNC Cst. Brewer in Churchill Falls assisted @FFA_GovNL following a report of an injured Great Horned Owl. With her help, the owl was secured and transported for care. The owl is doing well and is on the mend.
