It’s only a matter of time before more powerful synthetic opioids make their way to the province.
That’s according to the Program Manager with the Safe Works Access Program.
Toronto is grappling with an overdose crisis and health officials there are warning that new, powerful and dangerous synthetic opioids are winding up in the hands of drug users.
In this province the RNC recently warned the public of the potential increase in the use of dangerous Narcotics in the community.
Emily Wadden, says the province is now at a place where every time someone uses drugs, they should test it.
She says they are seeing an increase in fentanyl mixed in with other drugs, and its only a matter of time before more synthetics are seen in the province.
Wadden says they have seen more overdoses recently.
She says there’s an increase in accidental overdoses, but luckily not all of those are resulting in death. She reminds people to carry Naloxone with them in the case of an overdose.
