“The lies are unbelievable,” says St. Mary’s mayor Steve Ryan when it comes to the abandoned fish sauce plant in the community.
The mayor calls it “a cover-up” as to what toxins lie inside the facility after an access to information report discovered H2S gas was detected in 2016.
He claims a 2016 experiment proves officials were aware of the toxicity.
Ryan says they experimented by putting the product inside a tank with rainbow trout. Within 15 minutes, all the fish were dead.
Desperate for help, the town council along with a large group of residents are calling on government to “do something” to clean up the site.

He says they’ve even called Greenpeace and other environmental organizations looking for help to clean up the mess.
The mayor told residents he never thought he would have to go as far as contacting groups beyond the government but has reached out to Greenpeace and the Sierra Club.
