The preliminary inquiry is scheduled to start this morning for one man accused of killing another in the west end of St. John’s.
Twenty-eight-year-old Sheldon Hibbs is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 68-year-old Michael King.
The victim’s body was found on a trail next to Waterford Valley High school on May 30, 2021.
But it wasn’t until March of last year, 10 months later, that Hibbs was arrested in Calgary and returned to St. John’s.
He’s been in custody at His Majesty’s Penitentiary ever since.
All five days this week have been set aside for the preliminary inquiry to determine if there’s enough evidence to go to trial.
Police have never released the cause of death in the case.
