Not that long ago, 65 was the mandatory age of retirement, and for those who chose to work beyond retirement age, the general perception was that they were preventing a younger person from entering the workforce.
That’s no longer the case according to the founder of Seasoned Professionals, a database that matches employers with retired professionals willing to lend their expertise to a project or workplace.
Newfoundlander Rick Emberley, who once ran the Bristol Group says the perception that older workers are taking away from younger people trying to secure employment is no longer accurate.
He says years ago, when a person left the workplace, there were plenty of people waiting to enter, now says Emberley, the trends are “scary”—with not even enough new entrants to fill vacated positions.
