Two people who were reported as overdue on a snowmobiling trip on the west coast were found alive and well sheltering in a cabin in the area around Copper Lake Road Sunday night.
The happy ending to this story brings home the importance of letting someone close to you know your route and your plans.
Glenn Green, President of the Western Sno-Riders, says a rider had seen the man and the woman earlier that day so that narrowed the search area to the general vicinity of Lady Slippery Road. And the Snow-Riders posted of the situation on their Facebook Page which gave searchers a head start.
The Bay of Islands Search and Rescue team located the pair at about 3:00 in the morning.
Greene says they didn’t wish to do so but had to break into a cabin as the night moved in and the temperature dropped.
He always lets his wife know of the travel route and estimated return time. If things change during the day, Greene will text his wife with the update.
