The clock is ticking down toward a potential strike by faculty at Memorial University.
Their union, MUNFA, has set a deadline for midnight Sunday to reach some kind of agreement that might avert a walkout and the disruption that would cause for MUN and its students.
But with more controversy this week about university spending, and then the posting of a guide on how to safely navigate picket lines, hopes are fading that there will be an 11th-hour breakthrough in talks.

In a statement to VOCM News today, MUNFA confirmed both sides are back at the bargaining table today but with no deal thus far.
MUN has advised students to continue attending classes and labs, and to keep submitting assignments, noting some classes taught by instructors who are not unionized will still go ahead.
In a further ominous sign of things to come, members of MUN’s student union joined faculty today to make signs in preparation for a potential Monday walkout.
