A St. John’s city councillor is calling on both the provincial government and Eastern Health to establish a safe injection site in the capital city.
Ophelia Ravencroft has drafted a letter to Minister Tom Osborne and Eastern Health CEO Kenneth Baird.
Ravencroft says a few weeks ago she was made aware of some Fentanyl contaminated drugs in the St. John’s area.
She touts the benefits of Naloxone kits, but believes that more needs to be done.
Ravencroft says she has heard strong support for the establishment of an Overdose Prevention Centre, also known as a safe injection site, which would allow users to be monitored and have Naloxone kits on hand should something happen. She says such facilities help keep everyone safe.
She says the ball is in government/Eastern Health’s court.
