Today is Tony Stack’s last day on the job as Director of the English School District.
Stack, who started his career in education teaching in St. Bernard’s on the Burin Peninsula back in 1986, has seen many changes over the ensuing four decades.
He believes he’s leaving the school district in good shape as preparations are underway for it to be absorbed into the Department of Education.
He says when he first learned of government’s plans, he wanted assurances that the learning environment on the school level not be affected.
He also wanted to make sure that the administrative burden, including purchasing and procurement, is not downloaded onto schools and that people are considered in the equation.
Stack says he’s conveyed those priorities to department officials. “I get the sense,” says Stack, “that they understand that.”
Stack retires at the end of the day.
The Integration Board of the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District has appointed Terry Hall to the position of interim CEO and Superintendent following the retirement of Tony Stack.
Hall has worked with the district as Assistant Director of Education and CFO.
The Board extends its appreciation to Stack for his guidance and leadership, including through the unprecedented COVID pandemic, and wish him well in his retirement.
