Shared governance is among the main issues in the labour dispute involving MUNFA and Memorial University.
Vice President of the Canadian Association of University Teachers and MUNFA member Robin Whitaker says the union is seeking collegial governance.
It’s not just about curriculum changes, says Whitaker, it’s about issues like budgeting and where the priorities are.
The provincial government is willing to consider a seat for MUNFA on Memorial University’s Board of Regents. That’s fine says Whitaker, but they don’t have to wait for legislative changes.
She says if the administration would agree to what they’re asking for, it would send a clear signal that they’re willing to work with them to run the university more effectively and focus on teaching students and conducting research.
