A man already accused of setting three fires in the downtown area of St. John’s has been charged with setting another one.
Thirty-one year-old Alex Hayes was arrested last week and charged with torching two sheds on January 19, and setting fire to an historic home next to The Rooms on January 24.
Hayes appeared in court this morning for a bail hearing, but that was postponed after a fourth charge was added to his file—this one involving a fire at Freshwater Auto on October 30 of last year.
Police continue to investigate two other recent fires—at King George V soccer pitch and the canteen in Bannerman Park. No charges have been laid in those cases.
Hayes now faces four counts of arson and three for break and enter.
He remains in custody and is due back in court on February 13.
