A St. John’s City councillor says it’s time for the province to stop pointing at the city and enforce a nuisance lighting bylaw on a provincial level.
Carl Ridgeley is calling on MHA John Abbott to work with government to bring down a nuisance lighting bylaw that would apply to all municipalities in the province.
Abbott has been standing in solidarity with residents in the Outer Battery during a months-long dispute regarding the use of excessive lights.
The lights in the Battery have since been dimmed, but the topic of excessive lighting continues to be discussed in regards to other areas of the city.
The councillor says if excessive lighting is such an issue, a provincial bylaw should be enacted so everyone falls under the same regulations. By doing so, Ridgeley says the City would have to act on the bylaw if incidents like the one in the Outer Battery were to occur again.
