The Under-18 Boys and Girls Curling Championships are underway in Timmins, Ont.
Team Perry, representing this province in the boys division, evened its record at 2-2 by thumping British Columbia 10-1 earlier today.
Team Locke, in the girls’ division, is 1-2 after its first three matches. They’re playing Northern Ontario this afternoon.
Both teams curl out of the Re/Max Centre in St. John’s.
Interestingly, Hayley Gushue, the eldest daughter of reigning Brier champ and Olympic gold medallist Brad Gushue, is an alternate with Team Locke.

Brad, who’s in Timmins for the event, says Hayley shares his passion for the sport and is always taking in matches and keeping track of who’s doing what, even when her dad is not throwing rocks.
He says he was the same way when he was her age, and that it’s fun watching her intensity.
