A St. John’s city councillor says while they’re pleased Metrobus has decided to keep the bus shelter on Military Road, it’s time to address the bigger picture.

Councillor Ron Ellsworth says the meeting between council and Metrobus was a good discussion, but that issue was just one of many facing the capital city.

He says the big issue is the lack of emergency shelters.

Ellsworth says it’s not acceptable to think it’s okay to have no choice but to sleep in a bus shelter. “The reality is we need to have more emergency housing, we need to have more emergency beds available and then we wouldn’t see these issues happen.”
