A report by the expert panel on future management of the Churchill River is now in government’s hands.
But the finer details won’t be made public.
In a news release, the government says “high-level information” is available online, but releasing the full analysis would weaken the ability to achieve maximum benefits during commercial negotiations.
Establishing the panel which prepared the report was a key recommendation from the Muskrat Falls Inquiry as the province positions itself for the expiry of the Upper Churchill contract with Quebec in 2041.
The panel is made up of industry experts as well as appointees from Indigenous groups.
Newfoundland and Labrador, through CF(L)Co, owns 65.8 per cent of the Churchill Falls facility while Hydro-Quebec holds the other 34.2 per cent.
