A retired prof who taught at Memorial University’s Grenfell Campus is the star of a Super Bowl ad airing tomorrow during the big game.
Dr. Patrick Monaghan, who now lives in London, Ontario, has always done acting and was surprised when he got the call for a Pringles ad making light of those getting their hand stuck in the Pringles’ tube.
Monaghan says the story about how he got the job has two Grenfell connections. A friend of his, Rodney Mercer, a former arts student at Grenfell, actually filmed his audition.
He says Mercer taped the audition, edited it and sent it off to the casting agency. Monaghan says a short while later he was notified of a Zoom audition after which he was hired.
Monaghan travelled to Mexico where the ad was filmed along with a group of Canadian actors who also appeared in the ad.
Monaghan views it as just another job, but says he thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
