Parents of children who are usually bused to 20 metro-area schools will have to find another way to get them there next week.
This after the English school district announced yesterday it was suspending its contract with Gladney’s Bus Service.
In a news release late Saturday morning, they said the decision was not taken lightly, adding they are aware of the significant impact it will have on families.
But the district says “they could no longer permit the continuation of the service without confidence it is being provided in a safe manner for students.”
In a follow-up email to VOCM News, a spokesperson declined to get into specifics, except to say the decision involves “fleet and operational safety concerns.”
The school district says they have a contingency plan, with alternative service expected to be in place by February 20, adding some schools may have busing restored before then.
In the meantime, they say most parents will have to find another way to get their children back and forth to school.
Officials are apologizing but say they were “left with no alternative but to take these steps in order to maintain student safety.”
