Premier Andrew Furey says there will be no sharing of personal health information as the result of new health data sharing that is part of the new health transfer deal with Ottawa.
Furey says the information they’re talking about is general health stats that are not associated with individual patients, similar to that already collected by the Canadian Institute for Health Information.
That would include depersonalized information on waitlists for hip and knee replacements for instance. None of the information will be linked to specific patients – nor should it be says Furey.
“There won’t be, nor will I support, the sharing of personal health information,” says the premier. He says the data will be aggregate data, and will not include names, personal diagnoses and addresses.
