A winter storm is pounding the eastern half of the island with snow and high winds, resulting in many closures.
Roads are snow covered and slippery with reduced visibility.
The storm will last right into the overnight with a brief lull in some areas in the afternoon hours.
About 30 to 35 cm is expected for the Avalon Peninsula, Burin Peninsula, central and eastern Newfoundland with lesser amounts on the south coast west of the Burin Peninsula. The west coast gets off unscathed.
Due to the inclement weather, schools in the St. John's Metro Region will be closed for today, Tuesday, February 14, 2023. Status updates can be checked on our website. https://t.co/KJNoVM73j6
