PC Leadership candidate Tony Wakeham is calling for a full debate in the House of Assembly about jobs and benefits with the Bay du Nord project.
Trades NL recently launched a Build Right Here campaign, advocating for as much of the work with the project as possible to be done locally, while a benefits agreement is hammered out.
Wakeham says a full debate must happen before decisions are made that would lock the province into a deal that could sell the province short.
He states that the province has more than enough workers to get the work done properly.
Wakeham says this could be the first project in the history of the local oil industry where workers may not play a significant role in the project, and where the completed FPSO may not sail from NL shores.
The House of Assembly will open for the spring sitting in a month’s time.
