Those concerned with the state of healthcare at the clinic in Whitbourne are holding a rally today to voice their concerns.
The emergency department there has seen numerous closures and diversions over the last 16 months, prompting those in the area—including the mayor and fire chief—to speak out about it.
Those in the area want 24 hour service restored at the hospital, and are looking for government to commit to doing just that.
PC Leader David Brazil says he and others in the party will be attending the rally.
He says the emergency room closures mean lengthy drives to other hospitals in Placentia, Carbonear and St. John’s, adding to the pressures on those facilities and on the stress levels of residents.
The rally gets underway today at 1:00 p.m.
