Special weather statements are in effect for most of the island as temperatures are expected to rise dramatically.
Rainfall warnings are in effect for the Avalon and Burin Peninsulas overnight tonight with 15 to 30 mm expected to fall over the eastern half of the island. Temperatures will be in the four to six degree range coupled with wind gusts up to 80 km/h, making for a wet and slushy Tuesday morning commute.
Meteorologist with the Gander Weather Office, Rob Carroll, says areas of the south coast west of the Burin Peninsula are slated to see the highest rainfall totals around 20 to 45 mm.
He says some areas may see flooding.
With strong winds, mild temperatures, rain and snow melt, there is a good chance for water accumulation. Carroll recommends clearing storm drains, gutters and down spouts of snow today.
