A new program, the aim of which is to improve the social and emotional well-being of seniors, is proving to be a hit.
Allie Boyd founded the Circle of Life—Little Lions program four months ago as a way to bring babies and seniors together.
Babies and their caretakers go to seniors’ homes, visit with residents, and participate in activities like sing-alongs and nursery rhymes.
Boyd says the seniors love it, the babies love it, and the parents are also excited about the program.
She says one woman at a home in Mount Pearl had her picture taken with a baby, and asked the staff to print it off. She told Allie afterwards that she was putting it on her wall “and it will be there until I die.”
Boyd says the Paradise Lions’ Club is on board and Torbay is also expressing interest. She’s hoping more Lions’ clubs will participate in the program so that it expands to rural areas across the province.
