The premier of Quebec will be visiting the province tomorrow for a high level discussion on working together to address energy demands.
Francois Legault will be in town to meet with Premier Andrew Furey on hydroelectricity and the potential for collaboration between the provinces. They will be talking about renegotiation of the Churchill Falls hydroelectricity deal, which expires in 2041.
The 1969 agreement with Newfoundland and Labrador allows Hydro-Quebec to purchase the majority of the electricity generated at the station in Labrador, and therefore reap most of the profits.
As of 2019, the deal yielded close to $28 billion in profits to Quebec, compared to just $2 billion for Newfoundland and Labrador.
A media availability with Premier Furey is anticipated for 10:30 a.m. at Confederation Building.
VOCM News will be there.
