The federal government is giving Newfoundland and Labrador $27-million to train the workforce in the tech sector.
The funding will be administered by Tech-NL with a focus on equity-deserving groups.
Cabinet minister Seamus O’Regan made the announcement today at Verafin on Hebron Way in St. John’s.
The largest investment in NL’s tech sector that we’ve seen in a long time.
$27 million to grow it big. A real affirmation of what we’ve built here.
Because creativity is in our blood.
Because we’re ambitious.
Because here at @Verafin we’ve shown we can take on the world. pic.twitter.com/wSSfSlhyjF

O’Regan says the money is essential to train and upskill Newfoundlanders and Labradorians in technology.
He says the money is about keeping up with the pace of change and growth in the tech sector and says he is thrilled that the rest of the country recognizes what is being built here.
The campaign will connect with people who are considering future career options such as students and career pivoters as well as influencers – teachers, parents, coaches, mentors and others – who are helping provide guidance to those who may have potential for a future in tech.
