The Grand Chief of the Innu Nation says despite what takes place in discussions between the Newfoundland and Labrador and Quebec governments, there will be no development at Gull Island without Innu Nation’s consent.
Quebec Premier Francois Legault met with NL Premier Andrew Furey last week to discuss the controversial Churchill Falls contract which is due to expire in 2041.
Grand Chief Etienne Rich says that both the rate mitigation deal and the agreements between Newfoundland and Labrador and Hydro Quebec were signed without their knowledge.
The Innu Nation says the rate mitigation deal will cost them at least one billion dollars over 50 years, on top of the $4 billion they say Hydro Quebec already owes. They say without consent, they will take all action necessary to prevent further development.
Premier Andrew Furey is scheduled to meet with Grand Chief Rich today.
