Marine Atlantic says customers should not experience any significant delays with travel due to two separate issues affecting the Gulf ferry fleet.
Spokesperson Darrell Mercer says smoke was detected in the engine room of the Leif Ericson this morning. An investigation showed that there was no fire, and the smoke was caused by some oil that had dripped onto a pipe.
The issue was resolved and there was no impact on operations.
Meanwhile, technicians have identified a problem with the main engine on the Highlanders, which is now docked as a result. The problem is due to a faulty connector and ground cable, with repairs underway.
Mercer says it’s hoped the Highlanders will be able to return to service either this evening or on Friday.
