The head of the Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers Association says he supports great resources being put into the system for deaf students.
Earlier this week the Human Rights Commission announced that it agreed with the adjudicator’s decision that Carter, the son of Todd and Kim Churchill who is deaf, had been discriminated against during his time at Beachy Cove Elementary due to a lack of American Sign Language services.
NLTA President Trent Langdon wouldn’t comment on the Churchill case specifically, but does say support services in schools are essential.
He says without the right supports children will not meet the right outcomes, and teachers would love to see more resourcing in the system.
