It is not known at this stage whether more arrests will be made in connection to a fraud investigation in the metro area earlier this week.
The RNC announced yesterday that 23-year-old Charles Gillen of Ontario was arrested at St. John’s International on Thursday for his alleged connection to a phone scam targeting seniors.
RNC Constable James Cadigan says seniors in the St. John’s area were called by someone claiming to be a relative who had been arrested. A second voice would then get on the line claiming to be police or a lawyer, saying money was needed to bail the person out.
Cadigan couldn’t get specific, but he says thousands of dollars were lost as a result.
One arrest has been made, but whether or not more arrests are possible is up in the air.
As the investigation is ongoing, Cadigan can’t discuss any more potential arrests at this time.
