The capital city says the anticipated opening of the facility to replace the Mews Centre has been pushed back to next spring with construction about 60 per cent complete.
The original opening date target was this fall, but some issues were encountered with the availability and delivery of steel pushing the opening date back to the spring of 2024.
Cost of construction however remains on budget at $33.5 million dollars, funded through the federal Canada Community Building Fund.
Councillor Jamie Korab says while they are slightly delayed, they are within that budget.
The new 60,000 square foot facility will include a 25 metre, 6 lane swimming pool and climbing wall, a leisure pool with water features, a steam room, full-size gym, indoor walking track and convertible courts for squash, handball and racquetball.
Construction of a new facility to replace the Mews Community Ctr is 60% complete & is anticipated to open spring 2024. When construction began our target for opening was fall 2023 but due to issues with availability/delivery of steel, the date is adjusted:https://t.co/fsuAnHs6jy pic.twitter.com/D0qSwHdnm8
