After a period of warmer temperatures and a thaw, a wintry system is moving into the eastern half of the island in time for the weekend.
Meteorologist Mike Vandenburg of the Gander Weather Office says a fair bit of snow is expected, starting Friday night and continuing through to Saturday afternoon. Strong winds are also expected, which may cause visibility issues
The Avalon can expect 10 to 20 cm before all is said and done, while central Newfoundland and the northeast coast will see higher amounts in the range of 20 to 30 cm.
Vandenburg says the snow will be wet and heavy. “Just a pain to clear,” he warns.
