Government is not tipping its hand on whether the break on the gas tax will extend beyond the end of this month. Opposition politicians and the Canadian Taxpayers’ Federation have been calling on government to extend the 50 per cent cut in the original amount past March 31.
Premier Andrew Furey says it will be addressed in the budget. The current budget expires March 31st but government brings in interim supply to get them through the first few months of the new fiscal year.
Furey says he’s aware of the cost-of-living challenges facing people today, and that they are looking at measures similar to those introduced in the past.
