Today marks a grim anniversary in the province’s history.
Seventeen people on board Cougar Flight 491 were lost when the helicopter ditched into the Atlantic Ocean on the morning of March 12th, 2009.
Energy NL says the tragedy serves as a constant reminder of the challenges faced by those working in the province’s offshore.
CEO Charlene Johnson is offering her sincere condolences and support to all those who lost a family member, friend or loved one on that terrible day.
Reverend Christopher Fowler of Eastern Chaplaincy says the annual Cougar Memorial is scheduled for this evening at Elim Pentecostal Tabernacle on Kenmount Road.
This will be the first in-person service since just before the pandemic.
The memorial will take place this evening at 7:00. It will also be live-streamed on the Eastern Chaplaincy website.
