The school board has issued a statement on that violent incident at Prince of Wale Collegiate last week.
School staff have been in constant contact with the victim’s family.
Board superintendent and director Terry Hall says there will be a heightened police and security presence in the area of the school. The additional measures will supplement the video surveillance and remote door entry system currently in place at PWC.
Hall says the district always reviews incidents involving schools, even those outside NL, to enhance procedures and policies.
The board says families should be confident that their children are safe and able to learn, grow and thrive in their schools.
