The new urgent care clinic is opening today in Whitbourne.

The clinic, announced last week, will serve people with unexpected, but non-life threatening health issues. Those requiring emergency care will still have to receive treatment at the emergency departments in St. John’s, Placentia, or Carbonear.

The clinic is open Monday, Tuesday,and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the plan being to expand hours as staff are recruited.

A limited number of same-day appointments will be available via phone or walk-in on a first come, first served basis,.

People in the region see it as a serious downgrade from the previous set-up, which provided emergency services. They are planning a protest outside Confederation Building tomorrow.
