A Newfoundland man is recovering in hospital in Toronto after undergoing a risky procedure to regain some of his eyesight.
Jason Taylor, a former broadcaster, has what’s known as “Peter’s Anomaly,” a genetic eye disorder.
He has no functionality in his left eye, but for years he could see fairly well out of his right. However, Taylor says that changed last November.
He says there had been a cataract in that eye since he was an infant, but it was dormant. In the last few years it has become active, resulting in the loss of most of his vision.
He likens it to the windshield of a car frosting over—he sees a “permanent frost.”
A fundraiser dance at the Royal Canadian Legion on Blackmarsh Road in February drew a great response.
Taylor says they raised over $3,000 that night, noting that he gets cold shivers thinking about it.
Taylor is currently recovering from the surgery, which his family says went well, in Toronto. Taylor is being watched closely by doctors over the next couple of weeks to monitor him.
