Two swans and a number of ducks have died in recent weeks at Bowring Park amid fears that the bird flu is spreading among the waterfowl there.
The city confirmed last week that two swans, last year’s cygnet and an older adult died suddenly earlier this month along with a number of ducks.
The city strongly suspects avian flu and the carcasses have been sent for testing.
The city last week issued an advisory asking people not to feed the birds since the flu spreads faster when they gather together.
Seabird biologist Dr. Bill Montevecchi agrees.
He says live COVID, avian flu is still out there, the question is when or where it flares up again. He is joining with those asking people to refrain from feeding the birds.
