Cain’s Quest has announced an early resumption of the world’s toughest snowmobile endurance race.
An unusual warming trend forced the cancellation of the event after a number of teams ran into trouble due to conditions that had deteriorated dangerously.
No winner was declared as a result, but Cain’s Quest has announced that it will host the next race in 2024 rather than 2025 when the bi-annual race would normally resume.
Board Chair Chris Lacey says they can’t predict the behavior of Mother Nature—and while “Cain may have won this race,” they’ll get the next one.
He says the decision to host the race next year will be contingent on the approval of essential funding from the federal, provincial and local governments, as well as community and business partnerships which are necessary for a successful race.
As for this year’s purse, a decision was made to split it among teams still in the race as of 1:29 a.m. on March 7. It’s hoped that will help offset some of the costs associated with racing in the next event.
