The province is spending millions on the recruitment and retention of physicians, but what about nurses?
In nearby Nova Scotia, registered nurses are being offered $20,000 dollar signing bonuses, far in excess of the $3,000 dollars offered to RNs here.
Health Minister Tom Osborne responded to questions raised in the House of Assembly by both the PCs and NDP from comments made by RNU President Yvette Coffey on VOCM News this week.
He says the province’s retention bonus was offered to RNs several months ago and close to 90 per cent of nurses signed on to the bonus. Osborne says the bonus is far more than money, it also comes with efforts to address work/life issues.
