A team that captured the hearts of many across the province is giving some serious consideration to a return to Labrador next year for Cain’s Quest.
Organizers announced this week that they are hoping to pull off a race next year instead of waiting until 2025.
Team 66 Wild Nordic Finland developed a dedicated fan base while competing in the world’s longest snowmobile endurance race, but ran into serious trouble when one of its team members blindly drove his sled into open water near Port Hope Simpson during an unusual thaw.
Luckily neither team member was hurt and a recovery team from Port Hope Simpson successfully retrieved their sled from the shallow water.
Officials called off the race not long after that.
At the time, Markku Rytinki told VOCM News that while the decision to cancel the race was the right one, it was unlikely they’d be back because of the cost—but it looks like they might be persuaded to give it another go.
Team 66 Wild Nordic Finland posted to Facebook this week asking fans and supporters if they should return to compete in 2024, and the response has been enthusiastically supportive.
