The Memorial University Students’ Union is very disappointed with allocations for post-secondary education in the provincial budget.
The Canadian Federation of Students has flagged an $11.2 million cut from funding to MUN, marking a significant reduction in MUN’s Tuition Offset Grant from $60.7 million to $41 million.
John Harris, Director of External Affairs with MUNSU, says the cuts are the continuation of what caused the tuition hike a couple years ago, calling it “devastating” for everyone in the province.
Harris believes the budget offers very little assurance for the future which he calls “extremely disappointing” because post-secondary can be an economic driver, but now education has become unaffordable and people don’t see a future here anymore.
