The province has received proposals to decommission and remove an old transmission line in Labrador, as well as two bridges in central Newfoundland.
The Labrador project, proposed by Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro, involves almost 300 kilometres of the de-energized wooden pole transmission line that was completed in 1977, which had connected the Churchill Falls terminal station to the Muskrat Falls station.
The old line was no longer needed following completion of the Muskrat Falls to Happy Valley-Goose Bay interconnection two years ago.
The project is estimated to take about five years and involves dismantling, removing and disposing of everything associated with the old transmission line.
The plan was registered earlier this week, the deadline for public comment is May 5, and the minister’s decision is due by May 12.
Meanwhile, the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure wants to remove two abandoned bridges at Junction River and Little Junction River, between the Trans-Canada Highway and the Exploits River on the former Route 1, about a kilometre or two east of Badger.
The plan notes the bridges have deteriorated, and are in danger of collapsing.
The deadline for public comment on the project is also May 5, with the minister’s decision due by May 14.
