Violence Prevention Avalon East is experiencing high demand for their services, and they’re disappointed that more funding hasn’t been allocated to help meet the demand.
The organization receives $80,000 per year from the province, and aside from one time top up of $5,700 in February, that funding has not changed in over a decade.
They say they are disappointed to not see an increase in funding in the 2023 provincial budget.
Executive Director Valerie Barter says not receiving an increase leaves their organization struggling and “under incredible pressure.”
She says that they fear without adequate funding for more staffing to meet the demand, they will not be able to meet the needs of the most vulnerable.
