Mary Shortall has been named the first special advisor for the federal NDP.
The former president of the NL Federation of Labour says her new role will be to communicate with officials in Ottawa on issues affecting Newfoundland and Labrador.
Shortall says the new role is similar to what she’s been doing her entire career.
She says the role will mean constant communication with government and other organizations about announcements and issues involving this province. “To me it’s just an official title for stuff I do anyway,” said Shortall.
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh made the announcement this morning in St. John’s. He hopes to have special advisors located across Canada in the near future.
