The Newfoundland Growlers have clinched the top spot in the ECHL’s North Division.
The Growlers pulled off a 5-3 win over the Trois-Rivières Lions on Friday night, playing to a packed house of over 5,000 fans at Mary Browns Centre.
Defenceman Jonny Tychonick, who joined the team less than a month ago, earned first star of the game, putting up a goal and 2 assists in his first home game.

He says clinching the division means “everything.”
He says they’re looking forward to having home ice advantage for at least two rounds of the playoffs, but the work isn’t finished yet—their next goal is to clinch to top spot in the conference to secure full home ice advantage for the entirety of the postseason.
The Growlers take on the Lions again this evening at Mary Browns Centre.
