The length of time to complete a review of the province’s statutory offices has nearly doubled.
Justice Minister John Hogan initially announced the review in December, stating at the time that it would take about six months to complete.
Now, retired Supreme Court Justice Robert Fowler, who is leading the review, has announced that they are seeking input from the public for the review. That comes four months after the initial announcement was made.
Fowler owes the delay to them having to set up the office and team needed to complete the review.
Now that the process is officially underway, Fowler expects the review won’t be completed until about the end of September.
Despite the delay, he notes that some work has already begun.
He says they have started looking into other jurisdictions across Canada to see what they have in place and if similar concerns exist there. He notes there is interest in looking at similar international jurisdictions, such as Australia, but they don’t want to go down that road because “six months is six months.”
