Atlantic Canadians are becoming increasingly worries about paying their bills. That’s according to the latest MNP consumer debt index.
Licensed insolvency trustee Greg Gosse says their research shows that Atlantic Canadians are more concerned about finances than the rest of Canada, and 60 per cent of those feel that the worst is yet to come.
As well, 65 per cent feel that if interest rates go up they will be in further financial trouble.
Gosse states that lower income Canadians in particular cannot find a comfort level with their finances.
He says there’s very little wiggle room in household budgets. Gosse says on average people are saying they have $580 left over at the end of every month, and half of Atlantic Canadians are $200 away from not being able to pay their bills.
