Applications are open for a scholarship supporting marginalized students interested in the arts.
Anyone interested can now apply for Artistic Fraud’s Dr. Lanier Phillips Memorial Scholarship, which is presented to BIPOC post-secondary students studying in performing arts disciplines.
The scholarship remembers Dr. Phillips, who was the only African American survivor aboard the USS Truxton, which ran aground off the Burin Peninsula in 1942.
The story of Phillips’ experience is told in Artistic Fraud’s play, “Oil and Water”.
The deadline to apply is June 1.
